Unlicensed Medications

Read up on your pet's prescription

In veterinary medicine there is not as large a choice of officially authorised medication for every species of animal as we have for human medicine. This is why we may need to use a drug which hasn't been licensed in a particular species, for the condition that needs treating. Many of these drugs are widely used by vets including 'diploma holders', who are experts in their areas, similar to consultants in human medicine. This is called The Prescribing Cascade.
